During today’s (10 April) discussion on the Amanat Suraksha Bill, 2026, confusion briefly arose when Dhaka-12 MP and Jamaat leader Saiful Alam rose to speak prompting the speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed to say his intervention was disrupting proceedings.
As Speaker Hafiz Uddin moved to seek a “yes” or “no” vote on whether the Amanat Suraksha Bill, 2026 should be taken up for consideration, the MP rose at what the speaker described as an inappropriate moment.
The speaker then asked what issue the member wished to raise and under which bill he intended to submit his objection.
In response, Saiful Alam said, “Honourable speaker, thank you. I wanted to speak in favour of retaining the Bank Resolution Ordinance, 2025.”
The speaker clarified that the matter had not been introduced in the House and no such bill was currently under consideration.
The speaker asked Saiful to be more attentive, saying his intervention was disrupting the legislative proceedings.
Later, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni invited members for hospitality following the Jummah prayer.
At that time, opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman stood up and expressed confusion, saying that the documents they had initially received referred to a Bank Resolution Act and asked whether it would be presented separately.
The speaker responded that the bill would be brought before the House at a later stage.
