Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali today took charge as the 34th commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
Senior CMP officials greeted him as he assumed his new position, succeeding outgoing CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz.
Following his appointment, he engaged in an introductory meeting with senior officials at the CMP conference room in Laldighi. During the meeting, the new commissioner emphasized the importance of conducting people-friendly policing with integrity and transparency.
He also stressed the need to maintain overall security in the city and enforce a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards crimes such as theft, robbery, extortion, drug-related offenses, and corruption.
The event was attended by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic), also in charge of Administration and Finance, Wahidul Haque Chowdhury; Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed; and other senior officials of CMP at different levels.
Hasan Md Shawkat Ali joined Bangladesh Police in 1999 through the 18th BCS. Throughout his career, he has held positions in various important units, including Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and RAB. He has also served in UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Haiti, and Mali. Prior to joining CMP, he was serving as DIG (Logistics) in Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
