Omar bin Hadi, brother of slain activist Sharif Osman Hadi, filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh Police Station today (24 January), seeking security for himself and Hadi’s child, citing concerns over threats to their lives.
Confirming the matter, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Moniruzzaman said, “In the GD, Omar bin Hadi stated that following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, both his own life and that of Hadi’s child are under threat.”
“He has sought police protection for both. However, no specific reason or individual threat has been mentioned,” the OC added.
Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, was shot at close range on 12 December last year at around 2:15pm while travelling by rickshaw near the Box Culvert area in the capital’s Paltan.
According to police, two assailants arrived on a motorbike, opened fire at his head, and fled the scene.
He was first taken in critical condition to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital the same night. On 15 December, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment, where he later died while undergoing treatment.
