Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today (28 March) said the government is considering restoring the for the police force’s uniform in its traditional form, as personnel are currently not satisfied with their existing clothing.
“Discussions will be held at the highest level of government to decide whether any of the traditional uniforms can be restored,” he said while addressing the parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) cadre at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah in Rajshahi.
He attended the ceremony as chief guest, where he took the salute, inspected the parade, and distributed awards among the trainee assistant superintendents of police (ASPs).
The minister also said the government is working towards an independent and strong Police Reform Commission to keep the force free from political interference.
He noted that, like many institutions, the police force also suffered during the previous “fascist” regime, but has since been gradually recovering.
“The police will not serve any group or political party. It will be a true friend of the people,” he said, adding that the government is committed to building a modern, humane, and service-oriented police force free from partisan influence.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, the inspector general of police, and other senior officials were present at the event.
A total of 72 officials from the 43rd BCS (Police) batch, who began training on 1 March last year, formally entered service through the parade.
