Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury emphasised the importance of remembering history for a nation’s survival and said the cultural ministry has a plan to preserve the Kalurghat Radio Station and the memory of late President Ziaur Rahman.
The possibility of integrating the management of the Kalurghat Radio Station and the Zia Memorial Museum is being considered, said Nitai Roy during his visit to the historic Kalurghat Swadhin Bangla Radio Station in Chattogram this afternoon (24 March).
Emphasising the importance of preserving the history of the Liberation War, the cultural affairs minister announced plans to strengthen initiatives that highlight the heroic stories and memories of the war for future generations.
The Liberation War of 1971 was a significant people’s war that led to the independence of Bangladesh.
These movements paved the way for the ultimate goal of independence.
Following the brutal attack by Pakistani forces on 25 March 1971, President Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of independence from the Kalurghat Radio Center in Chattogram provided a new sense of purpose and unity to the liberation war effort. This declaration reignited the spirit of the people and inspired courage in the face of adversity, he added.
The minister also announced plans to establish a modern memorial museum, erect a sculpture of Zia, and preserve historical broadcasting equipment to commemorate this pivotal moment in history.
A comprehensive plan is in place for visitors to first visit the Kalurghat Radio Center and then the related museum. The minister highlighted that while the tragic murder of Ziaur Rahman at the Chattogram Circuit House has remained as a painful chapter in the nation’s history, his significant contribution to the Liberation War is a source of pride for Bangladesh.
