The government has cancelled the remaining tenure of Sheikh Abdur Rashid’s contractual appointment as cabinet secretary.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard today (14 February).
In another notification, M Siraj Uddin Mia, principal secretary to the chief adviser, has been given the additional charge of secretary of the Cabinet Division.
On 8 October 2024, Abdur Rashid was appointed cabinet secretary on a contractual basis. Before that, he served as senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. He was formally appointed cabinet secretary for a two-year contractual term effective from 14 October 2024.
Following the fall of the government amid a mass uprising, Abdur Rashid, an officer of the 1982 BCS batch who had retired as an additional secretary, was first appointed chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). Four days later, on 17 August, he was appointed secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division on a contractual basis, from where he was subsequently made cabinet secretary.
