Commerce, Industries, Textiles, and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today (14 March) said that the recent increase in global fuel prices due to the war in the Middle East will not affect the upcoming Eid travel in Bangladesh.
“There is also no possibility of a price hike in essential commodities,” he added, noting that a prolonged war could pose challenges for the global economy.
The minister made the remarks while responding to journalists’ questions at an iftar and Eid gift distribution programme for working-class families of Ward No 19, held at the Raynagar Daftoripara Mosque ground in Sylhet.
He said Bangladesh supports peace and expressed hope that the war would end soon, restoring global harmony, according to a Commerce Ministry press release.
Responding to a question about government measures if the conflict continues for a long time, Muktadir said the current government, elected through the direct vote of the people, has taken all necessary preparations to ensure public safety and maintain normal life.
“Because of these preparations, there is no reason for people to be worried,” he added.
Earlier, addressing the Eid gift distribution programme as the chief guest, the minister said the commitments he made to the people before the election would be implemented gradually.
He also mentioned that various problems in the city would be resolved over time and sought the prayers and cooperation of the people to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him through their votes.
