Internet services across Bangladesh may experience temporary disruption and slower speeds between 9 and 13 April due to maintenance work on a major international submarine cable, according to an official notice by Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC).
The work involves a repair operation on the country’s second submarine cable system, SEA-ME-WE-5, which is connected through Kuakata.
The maintenance activity, described as “S.1.5.1 Shunt Fault Repair”, is being conducted by the SEA-ME-WE-5 consortium.
According to BSCPLC, the maintenance is scheduled to begin at 10pm Bangladesh time on 9 April and continue until 6am on 13 April.
During this period, circuits routing internet traffic towards Singapore through the SEA-ME-WE-5 cable will be affected. BSCPLC said the work is categorised as “traffic affecting”, meaning users may encounter slower internet speeds or partial service interruptions.
However, internet services routed through the SEA-ME-WE-4 submarine cable system will remain operational.
