Police recovered the body of a former student of Jagannath University (JnU) from a mess in Dhaka’s Gendaria area today (16 February).
The body of Imran Nabil Pramanik, 26, was recovered around 11am from the sixth floor of a residence in Dhupkhola, Gendaria, according to Gendaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman Khan.
The body has been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford Hospital) for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, he added.
The OC told The Business Standard that Imran had been living in the mess with two others, who had gone home to vote in the polls, leaving him alone.
“In the morning, the housemaid found that he was unresponsive despite repeated calls. After informing the landlord, the police were alerted, who broke open the door and recovered his body hanging from the ceiling fan with a towel around his neck,” he said.
OC Moniruzzaman also said preliminary indications suggest it was a suicide.
According to police sources, Imran Nabil Pramanik, a 2016-17 session (Batch 12) student of the Department of Islamic Studies at Jagannath University, had completed his master’s degree and was seeking employment. He was the son of Md Shafiqul Islam Pramanik and Md Shirin Begum of Dhumaitari village, Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district.
