The government’s newly introduced family card programme will not benefit the country unless corruption and loan default are brought under control, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said today (10 March).
While thanking the government for launching the family card initiative, Nahid said swift measures must be taken to recover defaulted loans.
“Ensure that loan defaulters repay their loans as soon as possible,” he said while speaking at an iftar and doa mahfil organised by the Rajshahi division unit of his party at the Rajshahi Teachers Training College ground.
The opposition chief whip also said he would attend parliament to push for reforms and the implementation of the July Charter, not to listen to what he described as a “fascist president”.
“The parliamentary session will begin on the 12th. We are hearing that the president, a remnant of the fascist regime, will deliver a speech that day. We want to make it clear that we are not going to parliament to listen to the fascist president,” he said.
“We are going to parliament to secure reforms and to implement the July Charter.”
Nahid also said he wanted to see when the upper house of parliament would be formed.
Demanding justice for the killing of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, he said they had learned that the main suspects in the murder had been arrested in India.
“They must be brought back to the country quickly,” Nahid said, adding that those who were behind the killing must also be brought to justice.
