A Dhaka court has granted bail to former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder in an attempted murder case filed over the shooting of businessman Imrul Kayes Faisal during the July Uprising.
The order was passed yesterday (2 April) by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman following a hearing.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution Division) Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan said, “The defence lawyers moved a bail petition on behalf of the accused. After hearing, the court granted his bail,” he said.
According to the case statement, on 19 July 2024, businessman Imrul Kayes Faisal was shot while participating in the Students Against Discrimination movement in the Beribadh area under Mohammadpur Police Station. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
After receiving treatment, Faisal filed the case at Mohammadpur Police Station on 26 September that year.
Sadhan was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) in the Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital on 3 October 2024. He has been in custody since his arrest.
