A court here today placed former DGFI director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser on a two-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of BNP activist Makbul in 2022.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded for a five-day remand in the case.
The same court on April 8 placed Md Afzal Naser on a four-day remand in the case. He was first remanded in the case on April 5, when the court placed him on a three-day remand.
Md Afzal Naser was detained by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from a house in the city’s Mirpur DOHS area on March 30.
According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists began gathering in the capital on December 10, 2022, as part of their party programme. Ahead of the programme, police and Awami League activists created a ruckus in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on December 7. They allegedly entered the BNP office, charged batons, and opened fire on BNP activists, critically injuring Makbul.
Makbul later died of his injuries at a hospital. The case was filed on September 30, 2024 in this connection.
