An elderly man has gone missing from Dhaka’s Farmgate area on Saturday (6 June).
The missing man has been identified as Mobarak Hossain, 69.
According to family members, he was last seen at around 10:25am on Saturday and could not be traced despite searches over the past four days.
His son, Taimur Khan Mobin, a student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jagannath University, told The Business Standard that his father suffers from age-related cognitive problems and was undergoing treatment.
“He regularly visited the Poshchim Tejturi Bazar Jame Mosque for prayers and always carried a mobile phone. However, the phone has been switched off since he went missing,” he said.
“During this time, we have fallen victim to fraudsters twice. In one instance, someone posing as a police officer charged us a fee for call tracing. In another, a person claiming to be a sub-inspector informed us that my father had been admitted to a hospital in Daudkandi, Cumilla. However, that information also turned out to be false,” he added
The family has filed a GD with Tejgaon Police Station.
When contacted, Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kya Swee Nue Marma said police were working to locate the missing man.
“We have received a missing person report. The information has been shared with headquarters and relevant agencies. We are also trying to trace him through mobile tracking and other available means,” he said.
At the time of his disappearance, Mobarak was wearing a light lemon-coloured panjabi and black shoes. He has a white beard, is of medium height and stout build, and has only a few teeth.
Police and the family have requested anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact his son at 01738482371.
