Forty-five children are spending Eid inside Chattogram Central Jail, where their world remains confined within prison walls alongside their incarcerated mothers.
None have committed any offence, yet under existing rules, children up to six years old grow up in custody, far from the usual joy and family celebrations of Eid.
To ease the day, authorities have arranged new clothes for some and special meals and prayers, bringing a limited sense of festivity inside the prison.
“We are making every effort, in line with regulations, to keep inmates in good spirits during Eid, including special meals and arrangements for prayers,” said Senior Jail Superintendent Md Iqbal Hossain.
