Strict monitoring will be maintained to prevent bus owners from charging extra fares during Eid-ul-Fitr travel, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) acting commissioner Md Sarwar said today (9 March).
Additional armed police will also be deployed on the streets to ensure the safety of passengers, Sarwar said at an views-exchange meeting held at the capital’s Sayedabad bus terminal this afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, organised to ensure a smooth and extortion-free Eid journey from Sayedabad bus terminal, he said help desks will be set up for passengers during Eid, with special arrangements for women.
“Additional CCTV cameras have also been installed in the terminal area to prevent any untoward incidents,” he added.
Sarwar also said a one-way traffic system will be introduced on routes leaving Dhaka, particularly on the Gazipur route, to help reduce traffic congestion.
He added that the government is committed to preventing the sufferings experienced in previous years and ensuring a safe and hassle-free Eid journey for the public.
