The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a series of measures, including the eviction of illegal bus ticket counters, to ensure safe, comfortable and smooth travel for homebound passengers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at Nagar Bhaban today (10 March), chaired by DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam.
Speaking at the meeting, the DSCC administrator said, “To ensure a smooth Eid journey and address long-term traffic congestion, the city corporation, police, bus owners and workers will work together.”
“The coordinated decisions taken will be implemented at any cost to provide comfort to passengers,” he said.
Several key measures were decided at the meeting to improve management at the Sayedabad bus terminal and surrounding areas.
Eviction of illegal counters and shops
Illegal roadside ticket counters from the slope of Sayedabad bridge to TT Para will be removed after issuing notices.
Authorities will also evict illegal shops operating inside the terminal.
Systematic allocation of counters
Ticket counters inside the terminal will be allocated to genuine bus companies under a specific policy through coordination among DSCC, the bus owners association and traffic police.
Ensuring proper use of terminal and bus bays
Buses will not be allowed to use the terminal as a depot and must instead use the five designated bus bays.
Each bus will be allowed to wait only 20 to 30 minutes for passenger boarding.
Passenger services and infrastructure improvement
An information desk and a breastfeeding room will be set up for passengers.
Authorities have also been instructed to complete unfinished renovation work, repair toilets and take measures to address waterlogging before Eid travel begins.
Preventing overcharging of fares
Transport owners have been asked to ensure that operators do not charge fares higher than the government-fixed rates during the Eid journey.
Removing abandoned buses
Traffic authorities will seize and remove long-abandoned buses inside the terminal to help reduce congestion on surrounding roads.
