Chattogram Port remained operational during the Eid holidays from 17 March, maintaining steady handling of cargo, containers and vessels.
Official data shows the port handled a total of 1,842,318 tonnes of cargo between 17 March and 21 March, including 1,739,575 tonnes of imports and 102,743 tonnes of exports.
Container throughput stood at 36,725 TEUs, with 19,237 TEUs of imports and 17,488 TEUs of exports, indicating continued trade flow despite the usual holiday slowdown.
A total of 44 vessels were handled during the period, reflecting ongoing maritime activity at the country’s main seaport.
Among the busiest days, 18 March recorded the highest cargo handling at 434,434 tonnes and container movement at 11,861 TEUs, alongside nine vessels. On 19 March, the port handled the highest number of vessels at 14, while managing over 416,000 tonnes of cargo.
Activity declined towards the end of the period. On 21 March, Eid day, cargo handling dropped to 255,874 tonnes, container throughput to 962 TEUs, and vessel arrivals to three, as operations were suspended for eight hours for Eid prayers and celebrations.
CPA Secretary Refayet Hamim said operations continued round the clock to keep supply chains functioning during the holidays, although deliveries remained slower.
Sarwar Hossain Sagar, president of the Bangladesh Ship Handling and Berth Operators Association, said operations remained uninterrupted apart from the eight-hour pause on Eid morning.
The steady handling of imports, particularly essential goods and industrial raw materials, helped maintain market supply, while export activities continued at a lower volume.
