Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Shahadat Hossain today (16 February) announced the regularisation of 459 temporary employees of the corporation, saying the process will continue in phases.
The employees were made permanent during a CCC meeting in the city’s Tigerpass, bringing the total regularised since the mayor took office to 1,450, according to a press release.
According to CCC officials, the 459 employees, across 19 categories, served in technical, administrative, and support roles, including electricity, equipment maintenance, office assistance, sanitation, and other essential civic functions.
Addressing the employees, Mayor Shahadat said skilled and experienced staff are vital for the city corporation’s development and praised long-serving temporary workers for their dedication and professionalism.
“Ensuring their rightful benefits and job security is a matter of fairness,” he added.
The mayor stressed that the regularisation drive will continue gradually, depending on administrative structure, financial capacity and existing rules.
“Those temporary employees whose posts exist in the approved manpower structure and have clearance from the ministry are being regularised in phases. For others, we are communicating with the ministry. Upon approval, they too will be made permanent step by step,” he said.
The mayor added that job security would strengthen employees’ sense of responsibility and motivation, ultimately improving public service delivery for city residents.
He urged staff to carry out their duties with sincerity and accountability.
