A gazette notification has been issued summoning Tulip Siddiq, daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain, to appear before the court in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over alleged flat fraud in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area.
The order was passed today (8 March) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a hearing, ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Salam confirmed.
Salam said the court had taken cognisance of the charges against Tulip and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain on 18 February and issued arrest warrants against them the same day.
“Today the ACC submitted a report regarding the execution of the arrest warrants. The report stated that they could not be located,” he said, adding that the court has fixed 29 March for submission of the next report in this regard.
The ACC filed the case on 15 April last year against Tulip Siddiq, former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Shah Md Khasruzzaman and former assistant legal adviser-1 Sardar Mosharraf Hossain over allegations of obtaining a flat from Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan through illegal benefits.
According to the case statement, the accused, through collusion and abuse of power, allegedly occupied and later registered a flat of Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan-2 without making any payment. The property is identified as Flat No B/201, House No 5A and 5B (old), currently 113 and 11B (new), Road No 71.
Following the case, Shah Khasruzzaman filed a writ petition with the High Court in July seeking a stay on the investigation, in response the court subsequently suspended the probe against him for three months.
Later, the ACC moved the Chamber Court but received a “no order” ruling.
After completing the investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet on 11 December against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain under sections 161, 165A, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
