A Dhaka court today (6 April) ordered that content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury be shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed over an incident that took place in the capital’s Mohammadpur during the 2024 July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order following a police application, confirmed prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
The investigating officer of the case, Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mominul Islam, had filed the application on 2 April.
The application states that evidence had been obtained linking the accused to the incident and emphasised the necessity of showing RS Fahim Chowdhury arrested in the case.
Earlier, on 29 March, Fahim was apprehended in the Mirpur Zoo area by members of the public and a group of students and handed over to Shah Ali Police Station.
He was later transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
On 30 March, a Dhaka court ordered to send him to jail in connection with a case linked to the July Uprising.
According to the attempted murder case, on 19 July 2024, around 3pm, plaintiff Masud Hossain joined a protest against discrimination involving students from various schools and colleges and members of the public in front of the RAB quarters in Mohammadpur’s Bosila.
The accused allegedly led a violent armed attack on the peaceful demonstrators.
Around 3:15pm, as the procession moved across Bosila bridge, the plaintiff and other participants were reportedly fired upon indiscriminately by leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, along with some overzealous police personnel.
By 3:30pm, the plaintiff was injured and became unconscious.
He was subsequently admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
After recovery, he filed the case in court, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 175 others.
