The Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition of Sanjay Chisim, who is accused of helping Faisal Karim Masud flee the country.
Faisal is one of the main accused in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
Today (April 1), Judge Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court rejected Sanjay Chisim’s bail petition, confirmed Bench Assistant Riaz Hossain.
According to the allegations, on 12 December, after performing Jummah prayers at Motijheel, Hadi concluded his election campaign.
While en route to Suhrawardy Udyan around 2:20pm, the auto-rickshaw carrying him reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire with the intent to kill and fled. Hadi was seriously injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery, after which he was shifted to Evercare Hospital.
For advanced treatment, he was sent to Singapore on 15 December, where he succumbed to his injuries on 18 December.
Following this, the case was converted into a murder case.
On 6 January, the investigating officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet against 17 individuals.
On 15 January, the complainant, Abdullah Al Jaber Narazi, general secretary of Inqilab Mancha, submitted additional statements.
The court directed the CID to conduct further investigation.
The two prime suspects – Faisal Karim Masud, 37, from Patuakhali, and Alamgir Hossain, 34, from Dhaka – were arrested by the West Bengal Special Task Force on the night of 7–8 March after being apprehended in Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district near the Bangladesh border.
They were taken to Delhi on transit remand on 23 March and, during a hearing the next day, Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi requested NIA custody for detailed interrogation to uncover the full conspiracy. After two periods of 12-day remand, he provided a confessional statement and was subsequently sent to jail.
