The Bangladesh Coast Guard destroyed a hideout of the “Choto Sumon” gang in the Sundarbans today (30 March), while also seizing equipment used for robberies.
Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said intelligence reports indicated members of the notorious “Choto Sumon” gang were staying near the border canal under Mongla Police Station in Bagerhat.
Acting on the information, the Coast Guard base Mongla and Station Harbaria launched a joint operation at 6am.
During the operation, the gang’s hideout was identified and destroyed. Items including a walkie-talkie and daily cooking equipment were seized.
Choto Sumon gang members escaped into the Sundarbans after noticing the Coast Guard.
Authorities said legal procedures regarding the seized items are ongoing. The Coast Guard affirmed that such operations will continue to keep the Sundarbans free of bandits.
