Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on Jamaat Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman at his office in the capital’s Bashundhara area today (3 March).
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, according to a press release.
The ambassador congratulated Shafiqur Rahman on his election as leader of the opposition and wished him success in his new role.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, the release said.
They expressed hope that economic, political, trade and diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China would be further strengthened in the coming days, enhancing bilateral cooperation and development, it added.
Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy, Dr Liu Yuying and Political Director Zhang Jing were present at the meeting.
Jamaat Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Porwar, and Shafiqur’s foreign affairs adviser and Member of Parliament Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman also attended.
