Police have filed a case against a local BNP leader for allegedly assaulting an on-duty police officer at a filling station in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.
The incident took place around 2:30pm yesterday (25 March) at the Shyamnagar Filling Station at Khanpur area, amid a rush of vehicles seeking fuel.
The accused was Abdul Motin, a former vice-president of the Bhurulia Union unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a resident of Ishakura village in the upazila.
Confirming the matter, Shyamnagar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman said that Motin attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rasel Hossain following an altercation over queue management at the fuel station.
Following the incident, the accused fled. Police then filed a case in connection with the incident and launched a drive to arrest him.
Meanwhile, Solaiman Kabir, former convener of Shyamnagar upazila BNP, confirmed that Abdul Matin is associated with the party as a union-level vice-president. However, he said he was not aware of the alleged assault on the police officer.
