A car hit a tree while returning from Chuadanga, killing three members of a Monirampur internet businessman’s family in Jashore and critically injuring three others.
The accident occurred around 2:30am yesterday (23 March) at Gaidghat on the Jashore–Magura road, Officer-in-Charge of Barobazar Highway Police Station Alamgir Kabir confirmed.
The deceased were identified as Mahmud Hasan Zakaria Jony, 43, his father Abdul Majid Sardar, 75 and Jony’s four-year-old daughter Sheherish.
The injured are Jony’s mother, Monowara Begum, 60, his wife Sabrina Jahan, 30, and his son Samin Al Mas, 10.
The OC said the car was heading towards Jashore when driver Jony reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and as it reached Gaidghat around 2:30am it lost control and crashed into a roadside banyan tree killing Jony and his father on the spot.
He added that all victims were rescued and taken towards Jashore General Hospital, where the child, Sheherish was declared dead on arrival. The three injured were later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Riad Hossain, an IT firm expert and associate of the deceased Jony, said Jony had travelled with his family to his maternal relatives’ home in Chuadanga earlier in the day. While returning at night, the vehicle lost control, killing Jony, his father and his young daughter.
He added that all legal formalities were completed at night and the bodies were taken home, with funeral arrangements underway.
