Police recovered a burnt body from the space between a span and a pillar of the Mouchak flyover in the capital last night (11 April).
Due to the extent of the burns, authorities were unable to determine whether the deceased was male or female, nor could they estimate the age, said Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amirul Islam.
Speaking to The Business Standard, the OC said a fire broke out on the Mouchak flyover on Friday night. Fire Service personnel brought the blaze under control after being alerted.
The burnt body was discovered the following night by city corporation workers while carrying out cleaning activities in the area, he said.
Police were later informed through the national emergency helpline 999 and subsequently recovered the body.
Authorities suspect that the individual may have died in the fire. The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
