Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today (6 March) received the body of Abdullah Al Mamun, the Bangladeshi worker who died from burn injuries suffered in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia during the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:45am via a Saudia airline flight, as per a ministry press release.
Briefing reporters after receiving the body, the minister said the deaths of seven Bangladeshis have been reported so far amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Out of these, the bodies of four individuals have been brought back to Bangladesh, while one was buried in Saudi Arabia with the family’s consent, he added.
The minister said the family of the deceased has been given Tk35,000 for burial expenses and Tk50,000 in cash from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.
In addition, financial assistance of Tk3 lakh will be provided, he said.
