Police have recovered the bodies of a woman and her son from a residence in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area this afternoon (3 April).
The deceased were identified as Nargis, 35, and her five-year-old son Mahim, Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed to The Business Standard.
“Based on a preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the mother killed her son before taking her own life. An investigation is underway to determine the motive,” the OC said.
The OC added that police broke open the door of the house after being informed by locals and recovered the child’s throat-slit body and the mother’s hanging body inside.
The bodies were later sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, Shafiqul said.
According to police, the woman’s husband is a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, and the couple has two other sons, aged approximately 16–17 and 14–15.
