State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today (11 April) announced monthly town hall meetings for residents of Dhaka-13 constituency.
The announcement came at a meeting at the Suchona Community Center in the capital’s Mohammadpur. Residents of Wards 31, 33, and 34 attended, along with officials from service-providing agencies.
Hajjaj said regular engagement with citizens is key to democratic practice.
He also said the meetings will continue every month, adding that the initiative has been taken under the leadership of Tarique Rahman to establish “genuine democracy”.
At today’s meeting, residents raised issues including theft, mugging, drugs, youth gangs, waterlogging, load shedding, gas shortages, and footpath encroachment. Hajjaj asked officials from the relevant agencies to take immediate action.
Representatives from Dhaka North City Corporation, police, Titas Gas, Wasa, Dhaka Power Distribution Company and the fire service were present. Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Md Jewel Rana moderated the session.
Hajjaj said, “The town hall meetings aim to create a platform for open discussion among residents, elected representatives, and service providers.”
“Dhaka-13 could become a model constituency through coordinated efforts,” he added.
