The BNP will select candidates for reserved women’s seats in the 13th Parliament from those subjected to repression and persecution during the Awami League’s rule, the ruling party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said today (10 April).
The BNP started selling and receiving nomination forms to finalise candidates for the reserved women’s seats at 11am at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka.
Rizvi, who inaugurated the nomination form sale, said interested candidates can collect and submit nomination forms by 12 April.
Each form costs Tk2,000, while a Tk50,000 deposit is required at the time of submission.
Rizvi said the BNP is committed to continuing the democratic process in the country.
He added that the BNP’s women leaders faced imprisonment and various forms of harassment while in the opposition during the Awami League’s rule.
The party’s nomination board will consider all factors and select qualified candidates, and urged everyone to abide by party decisions, he said.
Rizvi further said that the selection process will consider roles in the July Uprising, educational qualifications, political experience, and the ability to speak effectively in parliament.
