The BNP will begin selling nomination forms for the reserved women’s seats of the 13th National Parliament from today (10 April).
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement, saying that interested candidates can collect the forms from the party’s central office in Nayapaltan starting at 11am.
The price of each nomination form has been set at Tk2,000. Aspirants must submit their completed forms by 21 April, along with a deposit of Tk50,000.
The Election Commission has already announced the election schedule for the reserved women’s seats, fixing 12 May as the voting day. The schedule was disclosed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at a briefing held at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on Wednesday (8 April).
According to the announced schedule:
• Deadline for submission of nomination papers: 21 April
• Scrutiny of nomination papers: 22–23 April
• Appeal filing: 26 April
• Disposal of appeals: 27–28 April
• Withdrawal of candidacy: 29 April
• Symbol allocation: 30 April
• Voting: 12 May
Out of the 350 seats in the National Parliament, 50 are reserved for women. Of these, 36 seats are allocated to the BNP, 13 to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliances, and one seat for independent candidates.
