A BNP delegation led by Abdul Moyeen Khan held a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur today (5 March) at 11am at the residence of the US Ambassador in Gulshan.
The meeting concluded at 11:50am.
The five-member delegation also included Member of Parliament Barrister Muhammad Nawshad Zamir, Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Nayeb Yusuf, and Nipon Roy Chowdhury, general secretary of BNP Dhaka District.
The discussion mainly covered bilateral relations, government policies, and global developments, with Dr Moyeen Khan noting that the United States has long been a strong friend of Bangladesh and has supported the country in various ways.
“With the formation of a new government, it is natural that US representatives visit Bangladesh, and the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the country’s current situation, policy directions, future plans, and overall international relations, particularly with the United States,” he said.
Regarding a pact signed with the United States during the final days of the interim government, which was reportedly agreed upon with the consent of BNP and Jamaat, Dr Moyeen Khan said that the matter has been discussed with the government.
He added that the government may have informed the public of the details, and the US will also provide information accordingly.
When asked about the opposition’s position in Parliament, he said BNP did not discuss it directly, as the party’s focus was on diplomatic, foreign policy, and economic relations with the United States, while any issues concerning the opposition may have been addressed separately.
