An initiative has been taken to suspend the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) registration of a doctor at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for six months over allegations that he marked attendance at the government hospital but later went to a private facility to see patients.
A letter signed by Deputy Secretary Muhammad Abdur Rouf Mia of the Health Services Division issued today (5 March) has been sent to the registrar of the BNDC to take necessary action in this regard.
According to the letter, Dr Rajesh Majumder, junior consultant (Pediatrics) at the 250-bed Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, allegedly gave biometric attendance at the hospital and later went to a private hospital to see patients.
The allegation surfaced in media reports and was broadcast live on a television channel yesterday.
During the broadcast, the doctor claimed that he was unwell.
However, a video later circulated on social media showing him seeing patients at his private chamber.
The ministry’s letter stated that the incident reflects irregularities in carrying out government duties and has also tarnished the government’s image.
“Under such circumstances, the BMDC has been requested to withhold Dr Rajesh Majumder’s registration for six months,” the letter said.
