The government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel to various fuel depots across the country to prevent illegal hoarding, maintain discipline in marketing, and ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel oil.
The decision comes in response to reports of unauthorised attempts to stockpile fuel following a crisis in the global market and rising prices triggered by the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran, according to a press release issued by the BGB today (28 March).
Under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the border force has been tasked with safeguarding the distribution chain and thwarting any efforts to manipulate the energy market.
According to a statement, the deployment is being conducted under a well-planned structure supervised by the BGB headquarters to ensure the security of the depots.
To facilitate operations in areas far from their respective unit headquarters, BGB members have established temporary base camps in secure locations near the depots.
