Bangladesh Bank has issued strict instructions to all scheduled banks to stop delaying or refusing the acceptance and exchange of torn, damaged, defective, and soiled banknotes.
In a circular issued yesterday (12 April), the central bank directed all scheduled banks to regularly accept such notes and provide customers with fresh or reissuable notes of equivalent value in exchange.
The directive places particular emphasis on exchanging Tk5, Tk10, Tk20, and Tk50 notes through designated special counters.
Bangladesh Bank also warned that regulatory action will be taken against any bank found violating the instruction.
