Bangladeshis spent Tk68 crore through credit cards in the United States during December 2025, according to a report published by Bangladesh Bank.
The latest data, released in the central bank’s report titled “An Overview of Card Usage Patterns Within and Outside Bangladesh”, shows a slight decline compared to November, when Bangladeshis spent Tk69 crore in the US using credit cards.
Overall, overseas credit card spending by Bangladeshi nationals fell from Tk511 crore in November to Tk491 crore in December.
Besides the US, Bangladeshis spent the second-highest amount in Thailand, totalling Tk64 crore in December, up from Tk52 crore in November.
The United Kingdom ranked third with Tk44 crore in credit card spending, down slightly from Tk47 crore in November.
Spending in Singapore dropped to Tk37 crore from Tk53 crore and India saw Tk35 crore spent through credit cards, slightly higher than Tk34 crore in November.
According to the central bank, India was previously the top destination for Bangladeshi credit card spending abroad until August 2024. Travel to India has since declined due to stricter visa regulations, prompting Bangladeshis to spend more in other countries.
The report also highlights debit card usage abroad. Bangladeshis spent the most via debit cards in the United Kingdom, Tk62 crore, followed by the US, Tk49 crore and India, Tk36 crore.
