Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken an initiative to modernise Sayedabad Bus Terminal in line with its original design, aiming to restore discipline in the capital’s public transport system and ease traffic congestion.
The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam at Nagar Bhaban today (12 May).
“There is no alternative to the full utilisation of bus terminals to restore discipline on the roads. The Sayedabad Terminal will be developed into a modern and user-friendly facility by ensuring the convenience of transport owners and workers,” the administrator told reporters.
Decisions taken at the meeting
The 110 ticket counters across six blocks inside the terminal will be reallocated on a fairness basis, with the transport owners’ association assisting the Dhaka South City Corporation and traffic police in the process.
All unauthorised counters outside and around the terminal, as well as illegal shops inside it, will be removed immediately.
Boundary walls will be constructed in open areas to ensure bus movement follows the original design, including the use of flyovers.
The drainage system will be improved to address waterlogging, while abandoned bus parts will be cleared.
In addition, a modern breastfeeding centre, spacious waiting rooms, clean toilets, a police outpost for security, and neon signboards will be installed for passenger convenience.
