The High Court has granted bail to former cultural affairs minister and actor Asaduzzaman Noor in two separate murder cases filed at Mirpur and Ramna police stations in the capital.
The order was passed today (10 May) by a High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher.
Barrister ZI Khan Panna and Barrister Rehan represented the former minister during the hearing, while Deputy Attorney General Shaila Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md Alamin opposed the bail plea on behalf of the state.
Earlier, on 16 September 2024, a Dhaka court ordered Noor and former state minister for civil aviation and tourism Mahbub Ali to be sent to jail after their arrest in a murder case filed at Mirpur Police Station.
Police had sought to keep Noor and Mahbub Ali detained after showing them arrested in the case over the killing of Siam Sardar, 17, during the July Uprising.
According to the case statement, a murder case was filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 114 others over the killing of Siam Sardar in Mirpur on 18 July 2024.
Siam’s father Sohag Sardar filed the case on 12 September, naming Noor among the accused.
Police arrested Noor in the Bailey Road area of the capital on the night of 15 September 2024.
