Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (10 May) called on members of the police to pledge that no authoritarian or fascist regime can ever again be able to use force against the country and its people.
Tarique made the call while inaugurating Police Week 2026 at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
Recalling the tragic events of 25 March 1971, during Bangladesh’s Liberation War, the prime minister said Rajarbagh Police Lines remains a symbol of sacrifice and resistance.
He noted that Pakistani occupation forces launched a brutal attack there under Operation Searchlight, killing hundreds of police personnel in the dead of night.
Paying tribute to the fallen officers, he said the nation must not only remember their sacrifice but also remain committed to protecting the country’s independence and democratic values.
