The four-day-long Police Week 2026 begins tomorrow (10 May) with a colourful and elaborate ceremony, featuring the theme “My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First.”
The opening ceremony will be marked by the annual police parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground this morning. The Prime Minister is expected to inspect various contingents and parade groups, take the salute, and deliver key directives to members of the police force.
As part of the celebrations, President Md Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir have issued separate messages highlighting the role and responsibilities of the police.
In his message, the President said the integrity, professionalism, discipline and dedication of the police are crucial to ensuring national stability, good governance and development. He praised the force for its role in maintaining law and order during national events and particularly during the recently held 13th national election, which he said was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner with police support.
He also stressed that evolving technological challenges such as cybercrime, artificial intelligence misuse and deepfakes are increasingly being used for misinformation, financial fraud, extremism, drug trafficking and human trafficking. He called for enhanced training in AI, data analytics, CCTV surveillance and digital forensics, along with stronger transparency, accountability and community policing.
The Prime Minister, in his message, said building a just, democratic and secure state is central to the government’s vision, but such goals cannot be achieved without public trust in law enforcement. He emphasised restoring public confidence in the police and improving the overall law and order situation as top priorities.
He further noted that investment in police development is essential for national security and stressed the need for stronger action against mob violence, youth gangs and drug proliferation.
The Home Minister, in his message, urged police personnel to become symbols of trust and service for the public while ensuring that victims receive proper legal assistance and that no innocent person is harassed during law enforcement actions.
The Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs praised the police for their professionalism, sacrifice and dedication in maintaining law and order and said a modern, efficient and people-friendly police force is essential for national stability.
The IGP reaffirmed the force’s commitment to modernisation and technological advancement, stating that the police aim to become more service-oriented, dynamic and accountable. He also highlighted the official slogan of this year’s event: “My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First.”
The parade will be led by Deputy Police Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, who will command various contingents participating in the event.
As part of the celebrations, awards including the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), President Police Medal (PPM), BPM-Service and PPM-Service will be conferred for acts of bravery, investigative excellence and exemplary service. The Prime Minister is expected to decorate the award recipients.
Recognition for distinguished service will see 107 police personnel honoured with medals during this year’s Police Week.
The programme will also be attended by ministers, members of parliament, diplomats, senior police officials, commissioners, DIGs, SPs and distinguished guests.
Key events of the Police Week include visits to stalls by the Prime Minister, welfare parades, award ceremonies, and high-level meetings between the Home Minister, other ministers and senior police officials to review performance and set future action plans.
The Police Week 2026 will conclude on May 13.
