Activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations Jubo League and Chhatra League held a flash procession in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area today (8 May), prompting police to detain one person from the spot.
The incident took place around 2:15pm at Ganabhaban Crossing under Mohammadpur Police Station.
The detained individual was identified as 40-year-old Md Khokon Kazi, a member of Jubo League.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mohammadpur zone) Zuel Rana said a group of 20-25 activists brought out the procession from Ganabhaban Crossing towards Iqbal Road.
A patrol team of Mohammadpur Police Station detained Khokon Kazi from the spot, while others managed to flee, he said.
Police also recovered a banner from his possession, the ADC added.
Further legal action against the detained individual is under process, police said.
