Police have arrested Alauddin Manik, convener of the Jatrabari thana unit of BNP’s volunteer wing, Swechchhasebak Dal.
He was arrested from his residence in the Sayedabad bus terminal area in Dhaka at around 4pm today (8 May).
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Wari Division) Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami said Alauddin Manik faces multiple allegations, including extortion.
“Manik owns a motor vehicle parts shop in Sayedabad. Allegations have been made that transport workers were threatened with assault and death if they did not purchase equipment from his shop,” he added.
There are allegations that Manik threatened police officers as well, he further added.
The police official also said Manik was arrested following a case filed by Shyamoli Paribahan.
