The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a “terrorist’ along with a foreign pistol and ammunition during a raid on a hotel in the city’s Shyampur area last night (7 May).
The arrestee, identified as Arifur Rahman Nayan, 41, was apprehended from a room in a hotel in the Postogola area around 10pm by a team from the RAB-10 Lalbagh camp following a tip-off.
During the operation, the elite force recovered one foreign-made pistol, five rounds of bullets, a magazine, and three mobile phones from his possession.
RAB-10 Senior Assistant Director Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Standard, describing Nayan as a professional armed terrorist.
He stated that the suspect had been using illegal weapons to carry out criminal activities in Shyampur and surrounding areas of the capital for some time.
According to RAB, Nayan is not only involved in illegal arms trading but also faces at least two existing cases filed with Shyampur Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act and for other criminal offenses, including mugging and assault.
Legal proceedings against the arrestee are currently underway, the RAB official added.
