Acting Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Sarwar today (7 May) instructed police members to remain on maximum alert to maintain law and order and prevent crime in the capital during Eid-ul-Azha.
He made the remarks while addressing senior police officials at DMP headquarters during the monthly crime review meeting for April.
The acting commissioner said police must take strict action against counterfeit currency gangs, muggers, “ogyan party” (doping gangs) and “molom party” (ointment gangs) groups during the Eid period.
He also instructed traffic police to ensure cattle markets do not create severe congestion in surrounding areas. Police vigilance must be increased at launch terminals, bus stations and railway stations, he added.
Sarwar further directed officers to strengthen foot patrols and continue drives against drugs and wanted criminals at police station level. He said all officers must remain alert to prevent crimes within their respective jurisdictions.
At the meeting, additional police commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said the overall law and order situation in Dhaka remains stable.
He said the stability must be maintained through continued vigilance and ongoing special drives against extortionists and muggers.
During the meeting, the acting commissioner also awarded DMP officials of different ranks in recognition of their performances in maintaining law and order, crime control and public safety in Dhaka during April.
