A tender box was snatched during an auction for the sale of unusable materials of the Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA), with police reportedly remaining largely passive, before its eventual recovery later.
At around 9:30am, a group entered the RDA building and snatched the tender box in front of police personnel before fleeing.
RDA Assistant Engineer Sheikh Kamruzzaman said tenders were invited on 20 April for four groups of scrap materials, each valued at Tk2 lakh, after which the sale of tender schedules began.
The deadline for submission was 1pm today (5 May), with tensions brewing since morning between two BNP-linked groups, he added.
SI Md Abdus Samad of Shah Makhdum Police Station said action will be taken against those involved after reviewing CCTV footage.
So far, around 450 tender schedules have been sold and only a few submitted.
