Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has formed six coordinated committees to address the city’s long-standing waterlogging problem.
The decision was taken by Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain at a coordination meeting held today (4 May) at the corporation’s office in Tigerpass, where he also directed officials to expedite field-level activities.
Officials from the engineering department, cleanliness wing and ward-level authorities attended the meeting. The mayor reviewed the current condition of canals, drains, culverts and connecting channels and instructed immediate action.
He said there is no scope for laxity in resolving waterlogging and directed authorities to quickly identify and remove obstructions hindering water flow.
Separate teams have been formed for key canals, including Hijra Khal, Jamal Khan Khal, Rampur Khal, Gulzar Khal, Monohordi Khal and the Chandgaon–Muradpur area.
The committees include supervising engineers, executive engineers, regional officers and representatives from the conservancy department. Coordination responsibilities with WASA have also been assigned to ensure proper drainage management.
At the meeting, the mayor highlighted severe waterlogging in areas such as Chaktai, Muradpur, Rampura Khal, Azam Pahar Khal, Gausia Road, Rupsa Bakery area, Gulzar Khal and Madarbari.
He said construction materials blocking canals and drains must be removed urgently.
He also stressed improving conditions in Rampura and Azabbahar canal areas before the monsoon, even on a temporary basis if needed.
