A man was killed and two others critically injured in an oxygen cylinder explosion at a scrap shop in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram this afternoon (2 May).
The incident occurred around 3:15pm at a shop dealing in old iron materials in the Kumira Mazar Gate area, police said.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Arman Hossain, 30, a driver of a local goods carrier vehicle known as a nasimon. He died on the spot after the blast.
Confirming the incident, Inspector Morshed Pervez of the Chattogram Industrial Police told The Business Standard that Arman had brought eight oxygen cylinders to the shop for cutting old iron rods. The explosion occurred while he was unloading the cylinders from the vehicle, with the blast throwing him nearly 100 yards away.
“Arman died on the spot, while the shop owner and one employee were critically injured,” he added.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The body has been kept in custody and will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures, the police official said.
