A Dhaka Court has rejected the bail petition of Saheda Parveen Samia, wife of Faisal Karim Masud who is the main suspect in a case filed over the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury passed the order after a hearing today (30 April).
Defense lawyer Rubel Mia sought bail, saying the accused has been in jail for a long time, is a woman, and her mother recently died.
He also argued that she was not involved in the incident and that only her husband may be linked to it.
The state opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application.
Earlier, Samia was arrested in Narayanganj on 14 December and later placed on remand.
She gave a confessional statement on 24 December. According to the case statement, Osman Hadi was shot on 12 December last year at Paltan’s Box Culvert Road area and later died on 18 December while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
The case was initially filed as an attempted murder case by Inqilab Mancha member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber and was later converted into a murder case.
Police later submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused, and the court ordered further investigation by the CID after a Naraji petition.
