Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi has congratulated Bangladesh on the historic achievement of the first fuel loading of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
In a press release issued today (28 April), he said the milestone marks Bangladesh’s journey towards becoming one of the newest State to use nuclear energy in its energy mix and to generate reliable, low-carbon electricity.
He noted that the development represents a long-term commitment that brings both long-term benefits and responsibilities, adding that it is also an opportunity to recommit to safety, security and safeguards.
Grossi said the IAEA has supported Bangladesh throughout the process and will continue to do so in the decades ahead.
