The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered that former Madaripur MP Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap be shown arrested in a case filed over alleged crimes against humanity linked to killings in Madaripur during the July Uprising.
The order was passed today (27 April) by the International Crimes Tribunal-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.
At the tribunal, Prosecutor Faruk Ahammed represented the prosecution and submitted a plea seeking to show former Madaripur-3 MP and Awami League leader Golap arrested in the case. Following the hearing, the tribunal accepted the plea, ordered that he be shown arrested and sent to jail, and fixed 4 May for the next hearing.
Earlier in the day, Golap was produced before the tribunal from prison in a prison van.
He was arrested by police on 25 August 2024 from a residence in Nakhalpara in Dhaka and has since been in custody in connection with multiple cases.
Golap previously served as a special assistant to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. He was elected as a member of parliament from the Madaripur-3 constituency in the 11th national parliamentary elections.
